The StreamVane™ Family of Inlet Distortion Generators

Developed in collaboration with Prof. Todd Lowe’s research group in the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech, the StreamVane™ family of distortion generators serves as simple physical surrogates, offering rapid and affordable production of steady and time-varying total pressure and swirl distortion patterns for ground-based testing of turbomachinery. Common applications include the reproduction of distorted inlet flows caused by embedded-offset diffusers, boundary layer ingestion, wing-vortex ingestion, ground-vortex ingestion, and maneuver-induced dynamic distortion.
