Turbine Engine Weight/Maintenance Reduction – Fluidic Controlled Inlet Guide Vanes (IGVs) and Stators
Goal: Design a fixed geometry, flow-controlled Inlet Guide Vane with variable flow turning capabilities to replace existing mechanically flapped IGVs.
Approach:
- Computational methods used to mature a design for a new and simpler IGV incorporating the use of a flow control jet and the resulting Coanda effect on the trailing edge of the airfoil.
- Manufacturability incorporated in IGV design.
- Experimental Annular Cascade designed to test IGV design and validate computational results.
